Our Focus Areas
STARTUPS
Startups are tough, but an incredibly exciting and challenging business environment.
Things evolve rapidly as we bring ideas and concepts to life. Pivoting constantly is critical and you will face a litany of obstacles as the journey unfolds. Survival is the name of the game.
Even if you have totally nailed it with your business strategy, product and value proposition, success can still be a long way off. Bringing a business to life and achieving sustainable scale is dependent upon so many factors. Working out which factors to tackle first and acquiring the right talent and capability to execute will mean the difference between success and failure.
TRANSFORMATIONS
If you’re not growing, you’re dying.
Businesses should be constantly transforming – change should be a key strand in your corporate DNA.
Smart businesses recognise the need to change, even at their peak – when they have the time and money to innovate and evolve, positioning themselves ahead of their competition. You don’t want to miss the boat and only realise need to transform or pivot when it’s too late.
Successful transformations are all about simplicity and speed. Boiling the ocean, rabbit holes, complex and convoluted strategies just aren’t helpful. Working out what’s good and what’s bad, what to keep, what to fix, what to get rid of and how, can be overwhelming in the context of minimising cost and maximising opportunity with a quickly diminishing timeline.
Confronting difficult truths about what is working in your business and what’s holding you back can be difficult. Finding solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems often just requires some new perspective.
TURNAROUNDS
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill.
Never let a good crisis go to waste. From adversity comes opportunity and smart businesses use forced change to reimagine, reinvent and reposition. It’s almost never too late. Successful turnarounds focus on the core business worth retaining and fighting for whilst identifying, testing & developing new opportunities.
It’s all about resilience and tenacity … and time … so speed is critical. Controlling & optimising cashflow, rationalising operations & eliminating unproductive costs are all key to a stabilisation program to extend your cash runway and to create time and space to reposition. But it’s also about change – and knowing what to change can be a challenge.
You can’t recover and then transform. You need to transform first to enable the recovery. The momentum you create from driving change to transform becomes the fuel for growth and new beginnings.
MAJOR PROJECTS
There’s a lot of ‘bla bla’ form and process in the multitude of project management methodologies being used these days.
We’ve done it all but we don’t really buy it.
Keep it simple and nail the planning. Do the hard work up front and plan meticulously – and don’t sacrifice speed and pragmatism for lots of from and process. Convoluted and overcomplicated process is a sure-fire path to projects being delayed or failing altogether.
Clarity of purpose, objectives and outcomes is key. Getting the right people in the right roles doing the right work – at the right time – is critical. Throw in a solid sense of reality about to timelines and cost. Ensure you have clear accountabilities, alignment and ownership of objectives and outcomes and the rest comes down to discipline, management and effective communication. Simple really.
